Symphonic concerts, chamber music and opera
During Summer 2007 The World Orchestra made five different projects in Spain. Apart from Symphonic concerts, the orchestra put up a Chamber Music festival, with concerts for String Quartet, Brass Ensemble and Percussion Group. WOJM was the resident orchestra of Nits de la Mediterrània Music festival and also was in charge of the music of the Opera ‘Puss in Boots’ (a co-production with Teatro Real of Madrid and Teatre Liceu of Barcelona). Some of WOJM musicians took part in the filming of new movie on Martin I Soler’s life.
One of the most important concerts was the one for the finals of the 32nd America’s Cup. The World Orchestra joined forces with Orquesta de Valencia with almost 150 musicians on stage. The program called ‘Classical-Spectacular’ included music by Prokofiev, Falla, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Gershwin, Bernstein, Ginastera and a première of a new piece by French composer Séjourné.
The orchestra also played 20th Century ballet music that included The Firebird by Stravinsky, Tres movimientos tanguísticos porteños by Piazzolla and Amor Brujo by Falla. Guest soloist Mayte Martín who is known as one of the best voices of flamenco nowadays joined The World Orchestra.
